WebSearch African Knives...

Rare African Knife - anyone know where it comes from? - I got this picture from a person looking for information - any ideas would be welcome!

The sheath has been restitched - but that seems to be the only part that is not original. Anyone with any info on this African knife would be most welcome - email us and we will publish your answers. It could be some kind of African ritual knife or ceremonial knife.

african tribal knifeThe owner of the knife says this:

I have a rare looking that looks like it was all hand made with a case that has skanke skin and other animal skin with seashell sand handle has a carved face on it

I can't tell where it originally came from but I purchased it from a flea market like 20 years ago for about 70 bucks and always kept it in a secure locker, Someone did mentioned to me about the sew and noted it was hand RE-threaded, The reason why I brought this item to your attention is, I just exposed it to a couple of people and I see a large interest, so my option was too research online and you were the only person with a website that had such knowledge in what i was researching.

Damascus Blades and Silver Handles and Sheaths

steel-mask-knife-7cmMokume Gane has been used in many of these knives - the trim and sheaths are made of sterling silver. The handles are either handmade in silver, gold or titanium or are cast using the lost wax casting method. The mask designs are carved into wax by artist George Skews. The handmade work and actual casting is done by Wayne Skews.

I have focused on African symbols and designs. The knives are small - from 30mm - 150mm - they are meant to be worn as dress knives. They are fully functional - but as hunting knives they fall way short - unless you are hunting geckos and frogs (s). I was looking for the perfect men's gift - many men are hesitant to wear jewellery in the traditional sense - in South Africa anyway.

Knives are one item that most men cannot walk past with out picking up and feeling the edge. Even if they have no use for another knife they feel the urge to own a well made, unique knife. Knife collectors will love them!

I created this range to be worn - in a formal environment - not in your shorts whilst hiking - but when you put on those good cuff links and dress suit.

Need a top class corporate gift? This item will never be thrown in a draw!
